Wireless stereo headsets
As the Nokia E66 I currently sport supports that A2DP thingy and because others rave about it so much and because I don't want folk calling me a luddite, I splashed out on a bluetooth thingy to go with the E66. The one I plumped for was this one...
Now, it works just fine although I had some initial connection problems as it would connect and then within about 5 seconds disconnect. I suspected it was because my email was "connected" so I disconnected that and it seems to have stopped the problem. I'm not sure about it though as a great boon. I tend to listen mostly to music or podcasts on the iPhone when I am walking to work and the bag I carry is a shoulder strap laptop case which has a phone holder on the strap, into which the iPhone goes and my usual Shure headphones are attached via the cable. The Shures come with a cable that is quite short but you can add a longer part if that is needed. For my needs, I just use the short cable as that is sufficient ie long enough, to connect my headphones to the iPhone when it is in the shoulder strap phone pocket. In other words I don't have a huge awkward long dangly cable in the first place.
One good thing about this Sony set is that you can attach your own headphones as it comes with a 3.5mm jack...that is the main reason why I bought it above others. Anyway, using the Bluetooth receiver you plug your phones into the receiver and that either dangles down in front of you or you can attach it with the attached clip to part of your clothing. You can then put the phone in a pocket or wherever so that is reasonably convenient but it is not hugely more convenient over my current set up. You still have basically a wire hanging down except this time there is the additional attachment dangling from the end which is odd, it is surely something though that you would get used to.
Perhaps I will find it more useful around the house, I don't know. One big drawback is that the podcast application on the E66 is so bloody inadequate (no bookmarking for instance) that I am unlikely to use the E66 for that purpose again. If the iPhone had the capacity to be able to support this A2DP feature I would probably use it more as its Podcast app is immeasurably more efficient and practical than that on the E66. Another thing that I don't like about it is that it needs to be charged and that involves lumping around, potentially, another flippin' charger.
It seems to me to be one of those things that some people will use because they can and they see it as something that will make others see them as being more technologically advanced. If you use one and think I am missing the point then please feel free to let me know, possibly I am not seeing the bigger picture here again.
