Treo 800w

Interesting to see the recent posts at WMExperts and pics of the forthcoming treo 800w. One of the posts has a huge amount of comments which shows that most smartphones people still have something to say, positive or otherwise , about palm and any new devices. Most of the comments in this thread are on the negative side. Some quite rightly point out that the pics are obviously of a pre-production unit and these tend to lack the niceties of the finished product. It looks a bit bland from the front although the side shot makes it look much nicer, more expensive looking methinks. Hopefully it will be less chunky than the 750 which, next to some of he slimmer phones I have used lately, looks decidely old hat.

Tero_800w I reckon I am just about finished with windows mobile and the only device that could tempt me back is the 800w as it will have wifi and should be much speedier than the 750. The Sony X1 holds no attraction at all and I am at best lukewarw towards the HTC Diamond.

Some, who have posted comments in the posts, have been quite scathing about the perceived lack of "innovation" suggested by the pics yet I fee they are being a bit harsh. I don't think Palm has to be hugely innovative with this device but instead just has to provide specs that are up there with those on rival devices as the treo form factor has worked for years simply because, for many, it is STILL the best form factor out there. The Diamond may look the business with its gloss black finish and the Sony phone might have a certain wow factor but neither of those things maketh, in itself, a great device. A treo with the palm "sauce'...(yuk)...is a good thing and that "sauce' for me, makes it a better device than any "touch flo" enabled HTC.

Make no mistake here, when it comes to Palm and the treo range, I am extremely biased and that bias comes from years of using the devices and being extremely happy with both the form factor and useability. If this 800w maintains those two important factors and adds some cutting edge specs then I will be a very happy bunny indeedy.
