.mac push email?
There has been some speculation over the last couple of weeks that big changes are afoot with the .mac service and several commentators have been voicing the opinion that it will become far more integrated with future iPhone software developments. One of the big features may be push email from .mac accounts which sounds good but would only be of interest to me if they can filter out the pile of spam crap that still gets downloaded on my IMAP email account.
Gmail has managed to stop 99.5% of junk mail on my IMAP account with them, a feat that seems to have very much escaped Apple's "filters" to the point where I have stopped loading on .mac IMAP on any mobile device and instead use Gmail to fetch my .mac mail, thus taking advantage of the latters excellent spam blocking capabilities. It may be better on a desktop but these days I barely use desktop apps for email, it is all managed on whatever mobile I am using at the time.
There has to be something coming that will make .mac more attractive, at the moment it doesn't seem decent value yet there blocks are in place to build something better and to utilise the service in some capacity on the iPhone. The service has a few good bits, the iDisk feature is potentially a big thing but it and the other parts just do not seem to integrate that well together. What that will be I have no idea as I'm not that sharp technically to know how it could be done.
